Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in Leading C i t i e s
The c o n d i t i o n statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s
shows t h e f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended January 26* Increases of
$128,000,000 i n loans t o brokers and dealers f o r the purpose of purchasing or carrying United S t a t e s Government o b l i g a t i o n s , $1)6,000,000 in holdings o f Treasury
c e r t i f i c a t e s o f indebtedness, $173,000,000 in holdings of United S t a t e s Government
bonds, and $1*72,000,000 in United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s .
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased $32,000,000 in New York
C i t y and $20,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Loans t o brokers and dealers
f o r purchasing or carrying United S t a t e s Government o b l i g a t i o n s increased
$119,000,000 i n New York City and $128,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s declined $231,000,000 i n New York City and
$65»000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks, and increased in n e a r l y a l l other d i s t r i c t s . Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness increased $56,000,000
in New York C i t y , $21,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $136,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds increased in a l l
d i s t r i c t s and the t o t a l increase at a l l reporting member banks was $173*000,000*
Demand d e p o s i t s - a d j u s t e d declined $1*3,000,000 in the Minneapolis D i s t r i c t ,
$35,000,000 i n the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and $1$,000,000 at a l l reporting member
banks, and increased $21*, 000,000 i n the Boston D i s t r i c t . United S t a t e s Government
d e p o s i t s increased in a l l d i s t r i c t s and the t o t a l increase was $1*72,000,000.
Deposits c r e d i t e d to domestic banks increased $1*2,000,000 ifi the Philadelphia
D i s t r i c t , $21,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $60,000,000 at a l l reporting
member banks, and d e c l i n e d $16,000,000 in the Dallas D i s t r i c t .
