CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEAPING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks in leading c i t i e s
shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended January 19« Increases
of $1425,000,000 in holdings of United S t a t e s Government s e c u r i t i e s , $151,000,000
i n demand d e p o s i t s a d j u s t e d , and 1152,000,000 in United S t a t e s Government deposits#
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased $15,000,000 in
New York City and 612,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and decreased $13,000,000
in the St* Louis D i s t r i c t ; t h e r e was a net decrease of only §1,000,000 at a l l
r e p o r t i n g member benks* Loans to brokers and dealers f o r purchasing or carry*
ing United S t a t e s Government s e c u r i t i e s decreased $153*000,000, l a r g e l y in New
York C i t y .
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased £125,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t ,
$71,000,000 in New York C i t y , £21,000,000 each in t h e Boston D i s t r i c t and the
Philadelphia D i s t r i c t , and $268,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks* Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness increased $87,000,000 in New York
City and $98,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks, and decreased #23,000,000
in the Chicago D i s t r i c t . Holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds increased
I20,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t and $58,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g
member banks, and decreased $20,000,000 in New York City*
Demand deposits a d j u s t e d increased $151,000,000 in New York City and
$29,000,000 i n the Boston D i s t r i c t , and decreased $44,000,000 in the Richmond
D i s t r i c t . United S t a t e s Government deposits increased in a l l d i s t r i c t s . Demand
deposits c r e d i t e d to domestic banks decreased $69*000,000, and demand deposits
credited to f o r e i g n banks increased $118,000,000.
Borrowings decreased $106,000,000 in New York City and 0111).,000,000 a t a l l
r e p o r t i n g member banks*
