CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s
shows the following principal changes for the week ended January 15* Increases of
$1*29,000,000 in holdings of United States Government obligations, $197,000,000 in
balances with domestic bonks, $256,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted, and
$330,000,000 in deposits credited to domestic banks.
Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased $32,000,000 in the
Chicago D i s t r i c t , $19,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and $103,000,000 *t
a l l reporting member banks. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or
carrying United States Government s e c u r i t i e s declined $47,000,000 in New York City
and $76,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks, "Other leans" increased $29*000,000#
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $175,000,000 in New York City,
$135,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t and $398,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
Holdings of United States Government bonds increased in most d i s t r i c t s and the
t o t a l increase was $61;,000,000.
Demand deposits adjusted increased $83,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t ,
$61,000,000 in the Boston D i s t r i c t , and $53,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and
declined $54,000,000 in New York City; the net increase at a l l reporting member
banks was $256,000,000. Time deposits declined $23,000,000. United States Government deposits increased $70,000,000. Deposits credited t o domestic banks increased
1-n nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s ; the principal increases were $120,000,000 in New York City,
$75,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $42,000,000 in the Kansas City D i s t r i c t .
