STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Systdm January IS, 1937* For immediate r e l e a s e Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in 101 Leading C i t i e s The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 131 leading c i t i e s on January 13 shows a decrease of $$6,000,000 in t o t a l loans and investments, an increase of $137t000,000 demand d e p o s i t s - a d j u s t e d , a decrease of $1*7,000,000 i n Government d e p o s i t s , and an increase pf $119,000,000 i n reserve "balances with Federal He serve "banks. Loans to brokers and d e a l e r s dn Few York City declined $13,000,000, loans to brokers and d e a l e r s outside New York declined $9,000,000, and loans on s e c u r i t i e s to o t h e r s (except banks) increased $7|000,000 in the Hew York d i s t r i c t and declined $3,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Holdings of acceptances and commercial paper bought increased $6,000,000, r e a l e s t a t e loans declined $3,000,000, and loans to banks declined $3,000,000, "Other loans'! declined $15,000,000 i n the Few York d i s t r i c t and $16,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks, and increased $12,000,000 i n the Boston d i s t r i c t .
