Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in 101 Leading: Cities
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading cities
shows the following principal changes for the week ended January 11* Increases of
$162,000,000 in demand deposits-adjusted and $134,000,000 in reserve balances with
Federal Reserve banks, and a decrease of $108,000,000 in deposits credited to
domestic banks.
Commercial, industrial and agricultural loans increased $4,000,000 in New York
City and declined somewhat in a number of the Federal Reserve districts, with the
result that all reporting member banks showed a net decrease of £38,000,000 for the
week. Loans to brokers and dealers declined $13,000,000 in New York City and
$20,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Loans to banks increased $8,000,000
in New York City. "Other loans" declined $14,000,000.
Holdings of United States Government direct obligations increased $32,000,000
in the Chicago district and $12,000,000 in the San Francisco district, and declined
$12,000,000 in the New York district and $9,000,000 in the Dallas district, all reporting member banks showing a net increase of $17,000,000 for the week. Holdings
of obligations fully guaranteed by the United States Government declined
$20,000,000 in New York City and $17,000,000 at all reporting member banks.
Demand deposits-adjusted increased $97,000,000 in New York City, $19,000,000 in
the Kansas City district and $15,000,000 in the San Francisco district, and declined $25,000,000 in the Chicago district, all reporting member banks showing a
net increase of $162,000,000 for the week* Time deposits increased $11,000,000 in
the Chicago district and $16,000,000 at all reporting member banks.
Deposits credited to domestic banks declined $52,000,000 in New York City,
$17,000,000 in the Kansas City district, $10,000,000 in the Dallas district and
$108,000,000 at all reporting member banks.
Weekly reporting member banks reported no borrowings on January 11#
