CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s
shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended January 8s Decreases of
$282,000,000 i n loans, $227,000,000 i n holdings of United S t a t e s Government obligat i o n s , $137,000,000 i n demand deposits a d j u s t e d , and $379*000,000 i n United S t a t e s
Government d e p o s i t s .
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans declined $29,000,000. Loans, t o
brokers and dealers f o r purchasing or carrying United S t a t e s Government s e c u r i t i e s
declined $155,000,000 i n New York City and $202,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member
banksj loans t o others f o r the same purpose declined $56,000,000* Loans t o banks i n creased $1*1,000,000,
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s declined $182,000,000 i n New York C i t y and
$21*0,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of
indebtedness increased $2$,000,000, holdings of United States Government bonds declined $ 111,000,000, and holdings of "other s e c u r i t i e s " declined $1*3,000,000,
Demand deposits a d j u s t e d declined $97,000,000 in New York City, $9!*,000,000
in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , $55,000,000 i n the ,San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and $137,000,000
a t a l l reporting member banks, and increased $68,000,000 i n the Cleveland D i s t r i c t
and $1*8,000,000 i n the Richmond D i s t r i c t . Time deposits increased $1*1*,000,000.
United S t a t e s Government deposits declined i n a l l d i s t r i c t s .
Borrowings increased $51,000,000 i n New York City, $26,000,000 in the
Minneapolis D i s t r i c t , and $127,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks,
