Condition Of Weekly Reporting Member Banks i n Leading C i t i e s
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n 101 leading c i t i e s
shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended February 21: Decreases of
$201,000,000 in loans and $538,000,000 i n United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s , and an
increase of $355,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s adjusted.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans d e c l i n e d $3*2,000,000 in New York
City and $56,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Loans t o brokers and dealers
f o r purchasing or carrying United S t a t e s Government o b l i g a t i o n s d e c l i n e d $70,000,000
and f o r purchasing or carrying other s e c u r i t i e s $1*5,000,000, both l a r g e l y in New
York C i t y ,
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s declined $60,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t and
increased $59,000,000 in New York City; a t a l l reporting member banks the net decrease was only $ 3 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 , Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness dec l i n e d $65,000,000. Holdings of Treasury notes increased $77,000,000 i n New York
City and $32,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of United S t a t e s
Government bonds increased $1*0,000,000,
Demand d e p o s i t s adjusted increased $225,000,000 i n New York C i t y , $66,000,000
in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , $37,000,000 in the Dallas D i s t r i c t , $ 5 5 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 i n the
Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and $355,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Time deposits
increased i n a l l d i s t r i c t s and t h e t o t a l increase was $50,000,000, United S t a t e s
Government d e p o s i t s d e c l i n e d in a l l d i s t r i c t s .
Deposits c r e d i t e d t o domestic banks declined $78,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t
and $11+8,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks.
Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks increased $1*7,000,000 during the
week, and on February 21 amounted t o $271,000,000,
