H,U#2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) February 23, 195° CONDITION OF WEEKLY BE PORTING MEMBER B M KS IN LEADING CITIES 1 The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended February 15: Increases of $286 million in balances with domestic banks, $672 million in United States Government deposits, and $1+53 million in demand deposits credited to domestic banks, and a decrease of $ 6 5 7 million in demand deposits adjusted. Commercial and industrial loans increased $102 million at all reporting member banks; the principal changes were increases of $Q£. million in the New York District, $34 million in the Chicago District, and $11 million in the Cleveland District, and decreases of $31 million in the San Francisco District and $11 million in the Dallas District. Changes according to industry appear in another press release. Real estate loans increased $35 million. "Other" loans decreased $27 million. Holdings of Treasury bills increased $5!+ million in New York City and a totg.1 of $ 1 3 6 million at all reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury notes decreased $62 million, of which $54 million was in the San Francisco District. Holdings of "other" securities increased $30 million. Demand deposits adjusted decreased $2+88 million in New York City, $180 million in the Chicago District, $74 million in the Philadelphia District, $ 6 7 million in the San Francisco District, and $62 million in the Boston District, but they increased $ 6 3 million in the New York District outside of New York City and $57 million in the Kansas City District. Borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks increased $133 million and borrowings from others increased $171 million. Loans to banks increased $197 million.
