H.4.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) February 20, 1952 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER B A M S IK LEADING CITIES Thfe condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities show the following principal changes for the week ended February 13: Decreases of $181 million in holdings of Treasury bills and $413 million in demand deposits adjusted, and increases of $203 million in United States Government deposits and $436 nlllicn in borrowings. Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased in seven districts and decreased in the other five, resulting in a net increase of $34 million at all reporting member banks; the principal changes were an increase of $40 million in New York City and a decrease of $21 million in the San Francisco District. The changes according to industry and purpose are available in another press release. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying securities other than United States Government securities decreased $68 million. Holdings of Treasury bills decreased $138 million in the New York District and $46 million in the Chicago District, and increased $23 million in the Richmond District. Holdings of Treasury certificates of indebtedness increased $45 million. Holdings of United States Government bonds decreased $19 million in the Cleveland District and a total of $37 million at all reporting member banks. Holdings of "other securities" increased $44 million. Demand deposits adjusted decreased $296 million in New York City, $109 million in the Cleveland District, $93 million in Chicago, and $65 million in the San Francisco District, but they increased $53 million in the Kansas City District and $32 million in the St. Louis District. Borrowings increased $243 million in the San Francisco District, $125 million in New York City, and $113 million in Chicago.
