2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE; SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) February 18, 1947 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement 6f weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s shows the following principal changes f o r the week ended February 12« An increase of $173,000,000 in loans,and decreases of $1*1*2,000,000 in holdings of United States Government obligations and $297,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted. Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased $1*3.000,000 in New York City and $100,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks, Loans t o brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United States Government s e c u r i t i e s increased $122,000,000 in New York City and at a l l reporting member banks. Loans t o banks declined $75*000,000. Holdings of Treasury b i l l s declined $106,000,000 in New York City, $33,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and $203,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness declined $267,000,000, of which $221*,000,000 was in New York City. Holdings of United States Government bonds increased $16 000,000. Demand deposits adjusted declined in nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s , the principal decreases being $171,000,000 in New York City, $61,000,000 in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , $36,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t and $23,000,000 in the Boston D i s t r i c ; they increased $36,000,000 in the New York D i s t r i c t outside of New York City.
