CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING- CITIES
The Federal Reserve Board's condition statement of weekly reporting member
banks in 91 leading c i t i e s on February 13 shows increases f o r the week of
$102,000,000 in net demand d e p o s i t s and $37,000,000 in t o t a l loans and investments,
and decreases of $43,000,000 i n reserve balances with Federal Reserve banks and
$88,000,000 in Government d e p o s i t s .
Loans on s e c u r i t i e s to brokers and dealers in New York City increased
$30,000,000 a t reporting member banks in the New York d i s t r i c t and $28,000,000 at
a l l reporting member banks; loans on s e c u r i t i e s to brokers and dealers outside New
York City increased $2,000,000; and loans on s e c u r i t i e s to others declined
$7,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t and $6,000,000 at a l l reporting banks. Holdings of acceptances and commercial paper bought and of real e s t a t e loans showed
l i t t l e change for the week, while "Other loans" increased $27,000,000 at reporting
member banks i n the New York d i s t r i c t , $5,000,000 in the Boston d i s t r i c t and
$18,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks, and declined $5,000,000 in the San
Francisco d i s t r i c t .
Holdings of United S t a t e s Government d i r e c t o b l i g a t i o n s declined $13,000,000
at reporting member banks in the New York d i s t r i c t , $9,000,000 i n the Boston d i s t r i c t , $8,000,000 in the Dallas d i s t r i c t and $29,000,000 at a l l reporting member
banks, and increased $9,000,000 i n the San Francisco d i s t r i c t ; holdings of o b l i gations f u l l y guaranteed by the United S t a t e s Government increased $7,000,000 in
the Dallas d i s t r i c t , $4,0 .0,000 each in the Philadelphia and San Francisco d i s t r i c t s
and $17,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks; and holdings of other s e c u r i t i e s
increased $7,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t , 85,000,000 in the Cleveland d i s t r i c t
and $8,000,000 at a l l reporting banks.
Licensed member banks formerly included in the condition statement of member
banks in 101 leading c i t i e s , but not now included i n the weekly statement, had
total loans and investments of $1 1 235*000*000 and net demand, time and Government
deposits of $1,418,000,'000 on February 13, compared with $1,225,000,000 and
$1,386,000,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y , on February 6.
A summary of the p r i n c i p a l a s s e t s and l i a b i l i t i e s of the reporting member
banks, in 91 leading c i t i e s , that are now included in the statement, together with
changes for the week and the year ended February 13, 1935» f o l l o w s :
