R, 284 STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS For immediate release Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System February 17, 1941 Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in 101 Leading Cities The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended February 121 Increases of $49,000,000 in commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans and $183,000,000 in demand deposits-adjusted. Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased $17,000,000 in New York City, $7,000,000 each in the Cleveland and Chicago districts, and $49,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Loans to brokers and dealers in securities decrewWd $16,000,000. Holdings of United States Government direct and guaranteed obligations increased $21,000,000 in New York City and $23,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Demand deposits—adjusted increased $88,000,000 in New York City, $30,000,000 in the Chicago district, $27,000,000 in the San Francisco district, and $183,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Deposits credited to foreign banks decreased $20,000,000.
