BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) February 16, 19u9 H.l*.2 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended February 9' Decreases of 0291*,000,000 in loans, $252,000,000 in holdings of United States Government securities, $392,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted, and $11*2,000,000 in borrowings. Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans decreased $25,000,000 in the San Francisco District and $21*,000,000 at all reporting member baiks, and increased $10,000,000 in New York City. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United States Government securities decreased $138,000,000, largely in New York City. "Other loans" decreased 053,000,000. Holdings of Treasury bills decreased *113,000,000 in New York City, $32,000,000 in the Chicago District, 327,000,000 in the Boston District, and $11*6,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury certificates of indebtedness decreased 066,000,000 in New York City, 025,000,000 in the Chicago District,and 3163,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Holdings of United States Government bonds increased 020,000,000 in the Chicago District, <*>11,000,000 in the Atlanta District, and $1*5,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Demand deposits adjusted decreased ^162,000,000 in New York City, ^101,000,000 in the San Francisco District, 069,000,000 in the Chicago District, and 050,000,000 in the Boston District.
