Released f o r p u b l i c a t i o n Friday a f t e r n o o n , Feb. 15# CONDITION OF MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING- CITIES The weekly c o n s o l i d a t e d statement of c o n d i t i o n of February 6 of 759 member banks in l e a d i n g c i t i e s which submit weekly r e p o r t s to t h e Federal Reserve Board shows i n c r e a s e s of $43,000,000 i n loans and d i s c o u n t s and of $36,000,000 in n e t demand dep o s i t s , t o g e t h e r w i t h d e c l i n e s of $7,000,000 in investments and of $18,000,000 i n accommodation at t h e F e d e r a l r e s e r v e banks. Loans secured by U. S. Government obl i g a t i o n s increased $22,000,000 and " a l l o t h e r , " l a r g e l y commercial, loans and d i s counts - by $43,000,000, while loans secured by corporate s t o c k s and bonds decreased by $17,000,000. In t h e investments block holdings of / U,. S. e bonds and notes show i n c r e a s e s of $14,000,000 and $6,000,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y , / b e i n g p a r t l y o f f s e t by a nominal d e c l i n e in c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness and a d e c l i n e of $12,000,000 in other bonds, stocks and s e c u r i t i e s . Loans and d i s c o u n t s of member banks in New York C i t y shcw:"> an i n c r e a s e of $32,000,000, i n c r e a s e s of $24,000,000 in loans on U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s and of $20,000,000 i n " a l l o t h e r , •' l a r g e l y commercial, loans and d i s c o u n t s , being o f f s e t in p a r t ty a r e d u c t i o n of $12,000,000 in loans on c o r p o r a t e s e c u r i t i e s . Investments of t h e s e banks i n U. S. s e c u r i t i e s increased by $24,000,000, while t h e i r investments in c o r p o r a t e s e c u r i t i e s decreased by $9,000,000. Net demand d e p o s i t s of a l l r e p o r t i n g banks show #in i n c r e a s e of $36,000,000, of which $25,000,000 i s reported by t h e New York City members. Reserve balances of a l l r e p o r t i n g i n s t i t u t i o n s show a d e c l i n e of $18,000,000, while cash i n v a u l t shows p r a c t i c a l l y no change. Aggregate r e d u c t i o n s of $23,000,000 i n r e s e r v e balances are reported by banks in New York C i t y . Accommodation a t t h e Federal r e s e r v e banks declined from $273*000,000 t o $255,000,000, while borrowings by t h e New York City members increased by $7,000,000.
