CONDITION OF MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The F e d e r a l Reserve Board ! s s t a t e m e n t of c o n d i t i o n of 'fib r e p o r t i n g member banks i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s as of February 3 shows i n c r e a s e s of $26,000,000 i n l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s , of $1$,000,000 i n time d e p o s i t s and of $44,000,000 i n borrowings from the Federal r e s e r v e banks. Member banks i n New York C i t y r e p o r t e d i n c r e a s e s of $23,000,000 i n l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s , of $10,000,000 i n i n v e s t m e n t s , and of $58,000,000 i n borrowings f r o m the Federal r e s e r v e bank. Loans on c o r p o r a t e s t o c k s and bonds went up $18,000,000, the l a r g e r i n c r e a s e of $30,000,000 r e p o r t e d by banks in the New York d i s t r i c t b e i n g o f f s e t i n p a r t by comparatively' small d e c l i n e s i n most of t h e o t h e r d i s t r i c t s . All o t h e r l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s were $7,000,000 l a r g e r than the p r e v i o u s week, an i n c r e a s e of $12,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t being p a r t l y o f f s e t by nominal r e d u c t i o n s i n most of the other d i s t r i c t s . Holdings of U. S. s e c u r i t i e s were $13,000,000 l a r g e r and of o t h e r s e c u r i t i e s $11,000,000 s m a l l e r t h a n a week ago, most of the changes o c c u r r i n g at r e p o r t i n g banks in the New York d i s t r i c t . I n c r e a s e s in n e t demand d e p o s i t s of $11,000,000 i n t h e Chicago d i s t r i c t and of $8,000,000 i n the Cleveland d i s t r i c t we re n e a r l y o f f s e t by r e d u c t i o n s of $9,000,000 and $7,000,000 i n the Boston and P h i l a d e l p h i a d i s t r i c t s , r e s p e c t i v e l y . The p r i n c i p a l changes i n borrowings f r o m the F e d e r a l r e s e r v e banks i n c l u d e an i n c r e a s e of $53>000,000 by banks i n the New York d i s t r i c t and a r e d u c t i o n of $8,000,000 by those in the Chicago d i s t r i c t .
