CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities
shows the following principal changes for the week ended February U s Decreases of
$21*1 million in holdings of Treasury bills and $951 million in demand deposits
adjusted, and an increase of $303 million in United States Government deposits.
Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans decreased $57 million at all
reporting member banksj the principal decreases were $37 million in New York City
and $25 million in Chicago. Changes according to industry are available in
another press release. Loans to banks decreased $>lll* million, "Other loans"
increased #33 million*
Holdings of Treasury bills decreased $ll*3 million in New York City, $70
million in the San Francisco District, and $31 million in the Boston District,
but they increased $25 million in the New York District outside of New York City
and $20 million in the Atlanta District. Holdings of Treasury certificates of
indebtedness increased $37 million. Holdings of Treasury notes and of United
States Government bonds decreased $21 million and $30 million, respectively*
Demand deposits adjusted decreased $1*21* million in New York City, $111 million in the Chicago District, $80 million in the Dallas District, $78 million in
the San Francisco District, and by smaller amounts in all but one of the other
districts. Time deposits increased $26 million. United States Government deposits
increased in all districts. Demand deposits credited to domestic banks increased
$96 million at all reporting member banks.
Borrowings increased $133 million in New York City, but they decreased $33
million in the Richmond District and $29 million in the Minneapolis District; the
net increase at all reporting member banks was $76 million*
