CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BAMS IN LEADING CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s
shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended January 25$ Decreases of
fl80 million in loans adjusted, $260 million i n reserve balances with Federal Reserve Bahks, and £759 million i n demand deposits credited to domestic banks, and an
increase of $163 million in demand deposits a d j u s t e d .
Commercial and i n d u s t r i a l loans decreased
million in Chicago, $18 million
in the Boston D i s t r i c t , 10 million in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and by smaller
amounts i n a l l but one of the other d i s t r i c t s j there was a net decrease of $lllt million a t a l l reporting member banks. Changes according to i n d u s t r y appear in another
press r e l e a s e . Loans to brokers and dealers f o r purchasing or carrying United States
Government and other s e c u r i t i e s decreased $lolt m i l l i o n .
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s aid of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness i n creased and holdings of Treasury notes and of United States Government bonds
decreased; there was a net decrease of ?3k million i n holdings of United States
Government s e c u r i t i e s a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of "other" s e c u r i t i e s
decreased mh m i l l i o n .
Demand deposits adjusted increased 396 million in the Chicago D i s t r i c t but
they decreased 195 million i n t h e New York D i s t r i c t , 179 million in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and t73 million i n the Boston D i s t r i c t , Time deposits decreased
$51 m i l l i o n .
Borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks decreased $18 million and borrowings
from others decreased : k2 m i l l i o n . Loans to banks increased '<7 m i l l i o n ,
