Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in Leading C i t i e s
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s
shows the following principal changes for the week ended December It Decreases of
$21*2,000,000 i n t o t a l loans and $802,000,000 in United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s ,
and increases of $1*50,000,000 i n demand deposits-adjusted and $11*8,000,000 in
deposits e r e d i t e d t o domestic banks.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans declined $16,000,000 in the
Chicago D i s t r i c t and $1*1*,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Loans to brokers
and dealers in s e c u r i t i e s declined $121*,000,000 and other loans f o r purchasing or
carrying s e c u r i t i e s declined $82,000,000, both l a r g e l y in New York C i t y .
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $112,000,000 in New York City, and
$9,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks, and declined $33,000,000 in the Boston
D i s t r i c t , $27,000,000 i n the San Franciso D i s t r i c t , and $25,000,000 in the New York
D i s t r i c t outeide of New York C i t y .
Demand d e p o s i t s - a d j u s t e d increased $168,000,000 in New York City, $71*,000,000
in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , $53,000,000 in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , $1*6,000,000 in the
Philadelphia D i s t r i c t , and $1*50,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. United
States Government d e p o s i t s declined in a l l d i s t r i c t s , the p r i n c i p a l decreases being
$356,000,000 in New York City, $98,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , $59,000,000 i n
the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and $57,000,000 in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t ; the t o t a l
decrease a t a l l reporting member banks was $802,000,000.
Deposits credited t o domestic banks increased $10l*,000,030 in New York City
and $11*3,000,000 at a l l reporting menber banks.
