CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities
shows the following principal changes for the week ended November 27; Decreases
of $385 million in loans adjusted, $268 million in reserve balances with Federal
Reserve Banks, $311 million in demand deposits credited to domestic banks, and
$518 million in borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks, and an increase of $286 million in demand deposits adjusted.
Commercial and industrial loans decreased in most districts and a total of
$240 million in all reporting member banks; the principal decreases were $105 million in New York City, $26 million in the Boston District, $23 million each in
\
Chicago and in the Cleveland District, $17 million in the Richmond District, and
$16 million in the Dallas District, Changes according to industry appear in
another press release. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying
U, S, Government or other securities decreased $130 million.
Holdings of Treasury certificates of indebtedness and of U, S. Government
bonds increased $47 million and $26 million, respectively. Holdings of "other"
securities increased $64 million, of which $45 million was in New York City.
Demand deposits adjusted increased $149 million in the Chicago District,
$118 million in New York City, and $94 million in the Dallas District, but they
decreased $102 million in the San Francisco District and $94 million in the Kansas
City District, Time deposits increased $37 million.
Loans to banks increased $265 million, and borrowings from other than Federal
Reserve Banks increased $357 million,
