H.4.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) December 30, 1959 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended December 23: Decreases of $106 million in loans adjusted, $293 million in U. S. Government securities, and $891 million in demand deposits adjusted, and an increase of $398 million in U. S. Government demand deposits. Commercial and industrial loans increased $57 million at all reporting member banks. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying U. S. Government and other securities decreased $212 million. Holdings of Treasury bills decreased $163 million and the combined total of Treasury notes and U. S. Government bonds decreased $123 million. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal Reserve Banks decreased $100 million and borrowings from others increased $398 million. Loans to dcuestic commercial banks increased $324 million.
