BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) December 22, 1943 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks i n leading c i t i e s shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r t h e week ended December 1$: Increases of $626,000,000 i n reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $706,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s a d j u s t e d , and 3516,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s c r e d i t e d t o domestic tanks. Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans i n c r e a s e d ,$67,000,000 i n New York City, $26,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t , >16,000,000 i n the S t . Louis Dist r i c t , and .#136,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks* Loans t o brokers and dealers f o r purchasing or carrying United S t a t e s Government and o t h e r s e c u r i t i e s decreased 370,000,000, l a r g e l y i n New York C i t y . Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness i n c r e a s e d 0 9 8 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 and holdings of Government bonds decreased 3280,000,000, p a r t i a l l y r e f l e c t i n g the exchange of maturing bonds f o r a new c e r t i f i c a t e i s s u e .
