Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in Lending P i t i e s
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s
shows the following principal changes for the week ended December l6t Increases of
$1,236,000,000 in holdings of United States Government bonds, $231).,000,000 in holdings of Treasury b i l l s , and $1,468,000,000 in United States Government d e p o s i t s .
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans declined $62,000,000 in Mew York
City and $52,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks, and increased $11;,000,000 in the
San Francisco D i s t r i c t and $10,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , "Other loans" dec l i n e d $15,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t and $28,000,000 at a l l reporting
member banks.
Holdings of United States Government bonds increased in a l l d i s t r i c t s , the
principal increases being $444,000,000 in New York City, $231,000,000 in the Chicago
D i s t r i c t , a n d $113,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t ; the t o t a l increase at a l l
reporting member banks was $1,236,000,000. Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased
$131;,000,000 in New York City, $58,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $231;,000,000
at a l l reporting member banks.
Demand d e p o s i t s - a d j u s t e d increase# $49,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t ,
$33,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $109,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks,
and declined $37,000,000 in New York City. United States Government deposits i n creased in a l l d i s t r i c t s , the principal increasesbeing $681;,000,000 in New York City
and $251;, 000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t .
Deposits credited t o domestic banks increased $79,000,000 in New York City and
$85,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks, and declined $29,000,000 in the Richmond
District.
