Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks i n 101 Leading C i t i e s

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n 101 leading
c i t i e s shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended December 13$ Increases of $38,000,000 i n commercial, i n d u s t r i a l and a g r i c u l t u r a l l o a n s ,
$168,000,000 i n loans to brokers and dealers i n s e c u r i t i e s , $167,000,000 i n Government bonds, and $157,000,000 i n demand d e p o s i t s - a d j u s t e d , and a decrease of
$242,000,000 i n reserve balances with Federal Reserve banks.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased somewhat in most of
the d i s t r i c t s , the p r i n c i p a l increases being $8,000,000 i n Hew York City and
$9,000,000 in the Cleveland d i s t r i c t . Loans to brokers and dealers i n s e c u r i t i e s
increased $131,000,000 i n Hew York City, $29,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t and
$168,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
Holdings of United S t a t e s Treasury b i l l s and Treasury notes declined
$13,000,000 and $15,000,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y . Holdings of United S t a t e s Government
bonds increased i n a l l but one d i s t r i c t , the p r i n c i p a l increases being $57,000,000
i n Hew York City, $21,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $20,000,000 i n the Cleveland
d i s t r i c t and $18,000,000 i n the San Francisco d i s t r i c t .
Demand deposits—adjusted increased i n a l l but one d i s t r i c t , the p r i n c i p a l
increases being $31,000,000 i n Hew York City, $36,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t ,
$20,000,000 in the Cleveland d i s t r i c t , $16,000,000 i n the Dallas d i s t r i c t and
$15,000,000 i n the Richmond d i s t r i c t . Time deposits increased $14,000,000 i n the
San Francisco d i s t r i c t and a t a l l reporting member banks. United S t a t e s Government deposits increased $22,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t and $46,000,000 at a l l
reporting member banks.
Deposits credited to domestic banks increased $37,000,000 i n the Chicago
d i s t r i c t and declined i n most of the other d i s t r i c t s , a net increase of $9,000,000
being shown f o r al1 reporting member banks. Deposits credited t o foreign banks
increased $10,000,000 i n New York City.
Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks amounted to $1,000,000 on
December 13.
