CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANES IN LEADING CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities
shows the following principal changes for the week <;nded December 4$ Increases
of $167 million in loans adjusted, #609 million in holdings of U, S. Government
securities, $572 million in U. S, Government deposit.s, and $431 million in
demand deposits credited to domestic banks.
Commercial and industrial loans increased $55 idllion at all reporting
member banks; the principal changes were an increase,1 of $89 million in New York
City and a decrease of $25 million in Chicago. Changes according to industry
appear in another press release. Loans to brokers r,nd dealers for purchasing or
carrying U, S, Government and other securities increased $1.46 million.
Holdings of Treasury notes increased in all districts for a total of $473
million, reflecting the sale of a new Treasury i ssun. Holdings of Treasury bills
increased y>35 million. Holdings of U, S, Government bonds increased $117 million, of which $46 million was in New York City and $40 million in the San
Francisco District,
Demand deposits adjusted decreased $88 million in the Dallas District, $71
million in the Chicago District, and ljj>59 million in the St, Louis District, but
they increased $74 million in New York City and $52 million in the Cleveland
District; there was a net decrease of v75 million et all reporting member banks.
Time deposits increased $47 million at all reporting member banks, of which $43
million was in the San Francisco District,
Borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks decrease} $30 million and borrowings
from others increased $147 million. Loans to banks increased $202 million,
