Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks i n 101 Leading C i t i e s
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n 101 leading c i t i e s
shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended August 2j A net decrease
of $12,000,000 i n commercial, i n d u s t r i a l and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans and a decrease of
$26,000,000 i n loans t o brokers and dealers i n s e c u r i t i e s ; increases of $73,000,000
i n holdings of o b l i g a t i o n s guaranteed by the United S t a t e s Government and of
$63,000,000 i n holdings of "Other s e c u r i t i e s " ; a decrease of $139,000,000 i n demand
deposits—adjusted and an increase of $216,000,000 i n deposits credited to domestic
banks.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased $24,000,000 i n New York
City and declined $24,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $16,000,000 i n the Atlanta
d i s t r i c t and $12,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Decreases i n commercial,
i n d u s t r i a l and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans during the week r e f l e c t purchases of commodity
loans from banks by the Commodity Credit Corporation. Loans t o brokers and dealers
i n s e c u r i t i e s declined $22,000,000 i n New York City and $26,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t ing member banks.
Holdings of United S t a t e s Treasury b i l l s increased $47,000,000 i n New York City
and declined $39,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , a l l reporting member banks showing a net increase of $8,000,000. Holdings of Treasury notes declined $5,000,000*
Holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds declined $2,000,000. Holdings of o b l i gations guaranteed by the United S t a t e s Government increased $21,000,000 i n New
York City, $16,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $11,000,000 i n the San Francisco
d i s t r i c t , and $73,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of "Other secur i t i e s " increased $57,000,000 i n New York City, $10,000,000 i n the Philadelphia d i s t r i c t and $63,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
Demand deposits-adjusted declined $89,000,000 i n New York City, $67,000,000 i n
the Chicago d i s t r i c t and $139,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks, and increased
$29,000,000 i n the Philadelphia d i s t r i c t .
Deposits credited t o domestic banks increased $95,000,000 i n New York City,
$67,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $13,000,000 each i n the Atlanta and Kansas
City d i s t r i c t s and $216,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks amounted t o $9,000,000 on August 2,
