Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in 101 Leading Cities
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading cities
shows the following principal changes for the week ended August 25* Increases of
$26,000,000 in commercial, industrial and agricultural loans, $20,000,000 m demand
deposits-adjusted, $55,000,000 in time deposits and $37,000,000 in Government
deposits; and decreases of $113,000,000 in deposits credited to domestic banks and
$18,000,000 in borrowings.
Commercial, industrial and agricultural loans increased $13,000,000 at reporting member banks in New York City, $5,000,000 in the San Francisco district and
$26,000,000 at nl 1 reporting member banks. Loans to brokers and dealers increased
$-4,000,000 in New York City and $5,000,000 at all reporting member banks.
Holdings of United States Government direct obligations showed relatively
little change for the week. Holdings of obligations fully guaranteed by the United
States Government declined $5,000,000 in New York City. Holdings of "Other securities" declined $9,000,000,
Demand deposits-adjusted increased $51,000,000 in New York City and $20,000,000
in the Chicago district, and declined $15,000,000 in the Cleveland district and
$12,000,000 in the Philadelphia district, all reporting member banks showing a net
increase of $20,000,000 for the week. Time deposits increased $12,000,000 in New
York City, $9,000,000 elsewhere in the New York district, $14,000,000 in the
Cleveland district, '$10,000,000 in the Philadelphia district and $55,000,000 at all
reporting member banks. Government deposits increased $33,000,000 in New York City
and $37,000,000 at n.11. reporting member banks. Deposits credited to domestic banks
declined $41,000,000 in New York City, #26,000,000 in the Chicago district,
$14,000,000 in the Kansas City district, $13,000,000 in the San Francisco district
and $113,000,000 at all reporting member banks.
Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks amounted to $21,000,000 on August
25, a decrease of $15,000,000 being shown for member banks in New York City.
