H.U.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) August 3, 19l*9 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n leading c i t i e s shows the following principal changes for the week ended July 27 $ Increases of #211,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted and $210,000,000 in United States Government deposits, and a decrease of $221,000,000 in demand deposits credited to domestic banks. Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased $22,000,000 in the San Erancisco D i s t r i c t , decreased $10,000,000 in the Atlanta D i s t r i c t , and showed only minor changes in the other d i s t r i c t s ; the net increase at a l l reporting member banks was $16,000,000, the f i r s t increase since the week ended January 12,1949. Holdings of Treasury b i l l s decreased $80,000,000 in New York City, $27,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and $23,000,000 in the Minneapolis D i s t r i c t , and increased $61,000,000 i n Chicago and $28,000,000 in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t ; the net decrease at a l l reporting member banks was $1*,000,000. Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness increased $30,000,000* Holdings of United States Government bonds increased $52,000,000. Holdings of "other securities" increased $38,000,000 in New York City, $19,000,000 i n the St. Louis District, and a t o t a l of $64, 000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Demand deposits adjusted increased $56,000,000 in the Chicago District outside of Chicago, $1*8,000,000 in the Richmond D i s t r i c t , and $47,000,000 in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t . The principal increase in United States Government deposits was $118,000,000 in New York City. Demand deposits credited to domestic banks decreased in a l l d i s t r i c t s . Borrowings increased $85,000,000 i n New York City and decreased $25,000,000 in the Minneapolis D i s t r i c t ; the net increase at a l l reporting member banks was $61,000,000.
