STAmiKtT FOE THE PRESS B-434 Federal Reserve Board August 3, 1931• For immediate release CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The Federal Reserve Board's condition statement of weekly reporting member "banks in leading c i t i e s on July 29 shows l i t t l e change in t o t a l loans and investments for the week, a decrease of $41,000,000 in loans "being o f f s e t by an increase of $53,000,000 in investments. Time deposits increased $23,000,000 during the week, net demand deposits declined "by a small amount, and Government deposits declined $19,000,000. Borrowings from Federal reserve banks decreased $5»000,000. Loans on s e c u r i t i e s declined $29,000,000 at reporting member banks in the New York • d i s t r i c t and $26,000,000 at a l l reporting banks, and increased $8,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t . "All other" loans declined $11,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $7,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t and $15,000,000 at a l l r e porting banks. Holdings of U. S. Government s e c u r i t i e s increased $52,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t and declined $9,000,000 in the San Francisco d i s t r i c t and $6,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t , a l l reporting banks showing a net increase of $32,000,000. Holdings of other s e c u r i t i e s increased $21,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t and the same amount at a l l reporting banks. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal reserve banks aggregated $55,000,000 on July 29* the principal change f o r the week being a decrease of $11,000,000 at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
