BQdRD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) August 27, 1947 CONDITION OF T.EEKLY REPORTING KEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly r e p p r t i n g member banks in leading c i t i e s shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended August 20t Increases of $195,000,000 in loans and $206,000,000 in demand deposits a d j u s t e d , and a decrease of $180,000,000 i n demand deposits c r e d i t e d t o domestic banks. Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased i n n e a r l y a l l d i s t r i c t s and $63,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Loans t o brokers and dealers f o r purchasing or carrying United S t a t e s Government s e c u r i t i e s increased $76,000,000 i n New York City and $73*000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Real e s t a t e loans increased $19,000,000 i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t and $23,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. "Other loans" increased $27,000,000." Holdings of Treasury b i l l s decreased $22,000,000 in New York City, $15,000,000 i n the Richmond D i s t r i c t , and $Ul,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks, and increased $19,000,000 i n the Cleveland D i s t r i c t . Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness declined $20,000,000, and holdings of Treasury notes increased $31,000,000. Holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds decreased $29,000,000 i n New York City, $17,000,000 i n t h e Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and $31,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Demand d e p o s i t s a d j u s t e d increased $97,000,000 in New York City, $32,000,000 in t h e San Francisco D i s t r i c t , $30,000,000 i n the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and $28,000,000 i n the Kansas C i t y D i s t r i c t .
