; The condition statement or weekly reportitig member banks i n leading c i t i e s
shbws the following principal changes f o r the week ended August 18: An increase of
$257,000,000 i n holdings of Treasury b i l l s , a decrease of $230,000,000 in reserves
with Federal Reserve Banks, and an increase of $107,000,000 in borrowings.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and agricultural loans increased $18,000,000 in New
York City, $15,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , $13,000,000 in the Chicago
D i s t r i c t , and $59*000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Loans to brokers and
dealers for purchasing or carrying United States Government s e c u r i t i e s decreased
$116,000,000 in New York City and $121*,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks.
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $126,000,000 in New York City, $58,000,000
in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , $30,000,000 in the Kansas City D i s t r i c t , $28,000,000
in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $2)7,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings
of "other securities" increased $61*, 000,000.
Demand deposits adjusted increased $38,000,000 in the Kansas City D i s t r i c t ,
$30,000,000 in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , $1*0,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks, and
decreased $1*1,000,000 in the Richmond D i s t r i c t . United States Government deposits
increased $1*6,000,000, and demand deposits credited to domestic banks decreased
