CONDITION OF MSifflER BANKS IN LEADING- CITIES The Federal Reserve Board's condition statement of 636 r e p o r t i n g member "banlcs i n leading c i t i e s as of August 15 shows decreases f o r the week of $63,000,000 i n loans and discounts, of $15,000,000 i n investments, and of $62,000,000 in "borrowings from Federal reserve "banks, and i n c r e a s e s of $73,000,000 i n net demand dep o s i t s and of $6,000,000 i n time d e p o s i t s . Loans on stocks and "bonds, including United S t a t e s Government o b l i g a t i o n s , were $79,000,000 "below the August 8 t o t a l at a l l r e p o r t i n g "banks, a decrease of $66,000,000 being shown f o r r e p o r t i n g "banks i n the New York d i s t r i c t and of $12,000,000 i n the Boston d i s t r i c t , and an increase of $6,000,000 i n the San Francisco d i s t r i c t . "All o t h e r " loans and discounts declined $23,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t and i n c r e a s e d $12,000,000 i n the San Francisco d i s t r i c t , $9,000,000 i n the Boston d i s t r i c t , $6,000,000 i n the Richmond d i s t r i c t , and $16,000,000 at a l l r e p o r t i n g "banks. Holdings of United S t a t e s Government s e c u r i t i e s declined $6,000,000 at r e porting "banks i n the New York d i s t r i c t and $16,000,000 at a l l r e p o r t i n g "banks, while holdings of other "bonds, stocks and s e c u r i t i e s show a net increase of $2,000,000 f o r the week. Net demand d e p o s i t s , which at a l l r e p o r t i n g "banks were $73,000,000 above the August 8 t o t a l , increased i n nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s , the p r i n c i p a l i n c r e a s e s by d i s t r i c t s "being: Chicago $30,000,000, San Francisco $21,000,000, P h i l a d e l p h i a $10,000,000, and Kansas City $8,000,000. Time d e p o s i t s increased $17,000,000 and $5,000,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y , at r e p o r t i n g "banks i n the New York and Cleveland d i s t r i c t s , and declined $11,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t and $6,000,000 i n the San Francisco d i s t r i c t , a l l r e p o r t i n g "banks showing a net increase of $6,000,000.
