CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER B A M S IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows
the following principal changes for the week ended August 10: Decreases of $238 million
in loans adjusted, $159 million in holdings of U. S.• Government securities, $278 million
in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $425 million in demand deposits adjusted,
and $829 million in U. S. Government demand deposits, and an increase of $303 million
in demand deposits credited to domestic banks.
Commercial and industrial loans decreased $35 million. Loans to brokers and
dealers for purchasing or carrying U . S . Government and other securities decreased
$43 million. Loans to sales and personal finance institutions decreased $134 million.
Holdings of Treasury bills decreased $155 million.
Demand deposits credited to foreign banks increased $102 million. Time deposits
other than interbank increased $70 million.
Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal Reserve Banks decreased
$82 million and borrowings from others decreased $105 million. Loans to domestic commercial banks decreased $107 million.
