H«l*»2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) August 17, 19l*9 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n leading c i t i e s shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes for t h e week ended August 10; Increases of $371,000,000 in holdings of United States Government s e c u r i t i e s , $369,000,000 in United S t a t e s Government deposits, and $3.58,000,000 in demand deposits credited to domestic banks, and a decrease of $152,000,000 i n borrowings. Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased in nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s and a t o t a l of $80,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks; t h e p r i n c i p a l i n creases were $38,000,000 i n New York City and $20,000,000 i n the Kansas City District. Holdings of Treasury b i l l s decreased $1*0,000,000, Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness increased $222,000,000 in New York City, and by smaller amounts in nearly a l l of the other d i s t r i c t s ? t h e t o t a l increase at a l l reporting member banks was $326,000,000. Holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds increased $58,000,000.
