H.U.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) August 11, I9I48 CONDITION OF TjEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The c o n d i t i o n statement of weekly reporting member banks i n leading c i t i e s shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes, f o r the week ended August in An increase of $137,000 ,000 i n commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans, a decrease of $192,000,000 i n loans f o r purchasing or carrying United S t a t e s Government and other s e c u r i t i e s , and increases of $261,000,000 i n holdings of Treasury b i l l s and $2514,000,000 in/d&poiWs c r e d i t e d t o domestic banks. Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased $65,000,000 in New York City, $23,000,000 i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and $22,300/000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t . Loans t o brokers and dealers f o r purchasing or carrying United States Government s e c u r i t i e s decreased $155*000,000 i n New York C i t y and $177,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $250,000,000 i n New York City and $32,000,0.00 i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and decreased $31,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t . Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness decreased i n nearly a l l d i s t r i c t s and the t o t a l decrease a t a l l reporting member banks was $130,000,000. Holdings of Treasury notes increased $65*000,000.
