BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) II.4.2 August 10, i960 CONDITION OF tEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER B A M S IN LEAPING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended August 3: An increase of $595 million in loans adjusted; decreases of $262 million in holdings of U. S. Government securities and $664 million in demand deposits adjusted; and increases of $192 million in U. S. Government demand deposits and $572 million in demand deposits credited to domestic hanks. Commercial and industrial loans increased in seven districts and a total of $123 million. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying U. S. Government and other securities increased $316 million. Loans to nonbank financial institutions increased $64 million. "Other" loans increased $85 million. Holdings of Treasury tills decreased $257 million. Holdings of "other" securities increased $55 million. Interbank time deposits increased $62 million. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal Reserve Banks increased $49 million and borrowings from others increased $131 million. Loans to domestic commercial banks increased $135 million.
