H.l**2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) August 1, 1951 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended July 25: Decreases of $162,000,000 in loans and $152,000,000 in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks; increases of $210,000,000 in holdings of United States Government securities and $61*3,000,000 in demand deposits adjusted; and decreases of $395,000,000 in demand deposits credited to domestic banks and $325,000,000 in borrowings. Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans decreased in most districts and a total of $89,000,000 at all reporting member banks; the principal decreases were $36,000,000 in New York City and $16,000,000 in the San Francisco District. Holdings of Treasury bills increased $52,000,000 in the Boston District, $1*0,000,000 in the Dallas District, $31,000,000 in the Richmond District, and a total of $175,000,000 at all reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury certificates of indebtedness decreased $1*0,000,000. Holdings of Treasury notes increased $123,000,000 at all reporting member banks, of which $50,000,000 was in New York City. Holdings of United States Government bonds decreased $18,000,000. Demand deposits adjusted increased $275,000,000 in New York City, $159,000,000 in the Chicago District, and by smaller amounts in all of the other districts. United States Government deposits decreased $11+9,000,000. Borrowings decreased $21+8,000,000 in New York City and $68,000,000 in the Chicago District.
