R. 28b For immediate release Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System April 9,191*6 Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks i n Leading C i t i e s The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s shows the following principal changes for the week ended April 3» Decreases of $1*91,000,000 i n loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United States Government obligations, $599,000,000 in holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness, and $527,000,000 in United States Government deposits;these changes partly r e f l e c t e d the redemption of maturing c e r t i f i c a t e s ; demand deposits adjusted also decreased $563,000,000# Loans t o brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United States Government obligations declined $1*77,000,000 in New York City and $1*91.000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Commercial, loans increased $1*2,000,000. Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness declined substantially in a l l d i s t r i c t s . Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased $200,000,000 in New York City, $1*0,000,000 i n the Boston D i s t r i c t , and $25!*,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks, and declined $1*6,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t . Holdings of United States Government bonds increased $51**000,000. Demand deposits adjusted declined $1*37*000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , $68,000,000 i n New York City, $1*8,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and $563,000,000 at a l l reporting member, banks. United States Government deposits declined in a l l d i s t r i c t s . Deposits credited to domestic banks increased $132,000,000 in New York City, $102,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $278,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Borrowings declined $lll*,000,000 in New York City and increased $93,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t ; a l l reporting menfoers showed an increase of $11*,000,000.
