Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in Leading C i t i e s
The condition statement of weekly r e p o r t i n g member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s
shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes for the week ended April 2s Increases of
$1+5,000,000 in commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans and $29^,000,000 in
holdings of United S t a t e s Government bonds; decreases of $122,000,000 in holdings of
United S t a t e s Treasury b i l l s , $177,000,000 in holdings of Treasury n o t e s ,
$123,000,000 in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, and $166,000,000 in demand d e p o s i t s - a d j u s t e d ; and increases of $7U,000,000 in United S t a t e s Government dep o s i t s and $112,000,000 in deposits c r e d i t e d t o domestic banks.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans increased $17,000,000 i n the
Chicago d i s t r i c t , $9,000,000 in New York City, and $15,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks. Loans t o brokers and dealers in s e c u r i t i e s decreased $21,000,000 in New
York City, $13,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t , and $38,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g
member banks.
Holdings of United S t a t e s Treasury b i l l s decreased $86,000,000 in the Chicago
d i s t r i c t , $28,000,000 in Now York C i t y , and $122,000,000 a t a l l reporting member
banks. Holdings of Treasury notes decreased $71,000,000 in New York City,
$29,000,000 in t h e Chicago d i s t r i c t , $22,000,000 in the Richmond d i s t r i c t , and
$177,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Holdings of United States Government
bonds increased $118,000,000 in New York City, $1+3,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t ,
$32,000,000 in the Now York d i s t r i c t outside New York City, and $29!+,000,000 at a l l
reporting member banks•
Demand d e p o s i t s - a d j u s t e d decreased $226,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t ' a n d
$166,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks, and increased $1+6,000,000 in the P h i l a delphia d i s t r i c t . United S t a t e s Government deposits increased $28,000,000 in the
Chicago d i s t r i c t and $7!+,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks.
Deposits c r e d i t e d t o domestic banks increased $1+9*000,000 in Now York City,
$50,000,000 in the Chicago d i s t r i c t , and $112,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks.
