R. 28l* For immediate r e l e a s e Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System A p r i l 3 0 , I9U6 Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks i n Leading C i t i e s The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks i n 101 leading c i t i e s shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes for the week ended April 21*i Decreases of $175*000,000 i n loans and investments, $301,000,000 i n United S t a t e s Government d e p o s i t s , and $257,000,000 in deposits credited t o domestic banks; and an increase of $31*1,000,000 i n demand deposits adjusted. Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans declined $$2,000,000 i n New York City, $17,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $1*1,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks, and increased $20,000,000 i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t . Loans t o brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United Spates Government o b l i g a t i o n s declined $26,000,000, and other loans f o r the same purpose $21*,000,000. Loans t o brokers and dealers f o r purchasing or carrying other s e c u r i t i e s increased Holdings of Treasury b i l l s declined $70,000,000 i n the New York D i s t r i c t of _ which $38,000,000 was outside of New York City, $51,000,000 i n the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $11^,000,000 a t a l l reporting member banks.
