R. 28l* For Immediate r e l e a s e Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System April 5* 1945 Condition o f Weekly Reporting Member Banks in Leading C i t i e s The c o n d i t i o n statement of weekly reporting member banks i n 101 l e a d i n g , c i t i e s shows the f o l l o w i n g p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended March 28: Decreases of $209,000,000 i n holdings o f United S t a t e s Government o b l i g a t i o n s , $210,000,000 in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, and $258,000,000 i n demand deposits adjusted. Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans d e c l i n e d $19,000,000 i n New York C i t y , $15,000,000 in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and $67,000,000 a t a l l r e porting member banks. Loans t o brokers and dealers f o r purchasing or carrying United S t a t e s Government o b l i g a t i o n s declined $51,000,000, other loans f o r the same purpose d e c l i n e d $29,000,000, and loans t o brokers and d e a l e r s f o r purchasing or carrying other s e c u r i t i e s increased $28,000,000, l a r g e l y i n New York C i t y . Holdings of Treasury b i l l s d e c l i n e d i n most d i s t r i c t s and the t o t a l decrease was $178,000,000.
