R, 284 For immediate release STATEMENT FOR THE PRESS Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System April 3, 19!*!* Condition of Weekly Reporting Member Banks in Leading C i t i e s The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s shows the following principal changes for the week ended March 29* Decreases of f i | 7 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 i n t o t a l loans, $21*1,000,000 in holdings of Treasury b i l l s , $227,000,000 i n reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $200,000,000 each in demand deposits adjusted and United States Government deposits, and $ 2 9 9 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0 in deposits credited to domestic banks* Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and agricultural loans declined in a l l d i s t r i c t s and the t o t a l decrease was $65,000,000. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United States Government obligations declined $1*8,000,000 and other loans for the same purpose declined $1*0,000,000, both l a r g e l y in New York City. Holdings of Treasury b i l l s declined $157,000,000 in New York City, $1*2,000,000 in the Philadelphia D i s t r i c t , and $21*1,000,000 at a l l reporting member banks. Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness increased $110,000,000 in New York City and $33*000;000 a t a l l reporting member banks, and declined $55,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , Holdings of Treasury notes declined $39,000,000. Holdings of United States Government bonds increased $30,000,000 in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , $16,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $22,000,000 at a l l reporting meinber banks, and declined $17,000,000 in New York City.
