CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s
shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended April 21: An increase of
$803 million in demand deposits adjusted and decreases of $265 million in United
States Government deposits and $315 million in demand deposits credited to domest i c banks.
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans decreased in a l l d i s t r i c t s and
a t o t a l of $210 million a t a l l reporting member banks} the p r i n c i p a l decreases were
$90 million in New York City, $30 million in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , $21* million
in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , and $15 million in the Philadelphia D i s t r i c t . Changes
according to industry appear in another press r e l e a s e . Loans to brokers and dealers
f o r purchasing or carrying s e c u r i t i e s increased $126 m i l l i o n .
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s increased in six d i s t r i c t s and decreased in the
others, with a net increase of $96 million at a l l reporting member banks; the p r i n cipal changes were increases of $69 million in New York City and $51 million in
the San Francisco D i s t r i c t . Holdings of United States Government bonds increased
$35 million i n the San Francisco D i s t r i c t and a t o t a l of $62 million a t a l l reporting member banks.
Demand deposits adjusted increased $1*03 million in New York City, $ll*3 million
in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , $69 million in the Boston D i s t r i c t , $56 million in
the Dallas D i s t r i c t , $1*7 million in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and by smaller amounts
in a l l but two of the other d i s t r i c t s . United States Government deposits decreased
in a l l d i s t r i c t s . Demand deposits credited to domestic banks decreased in most
districts.
Borrowings increased $63 million at a l l reporting member banks.
