CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in 101 leading c i t i e s
shows the following p r i n c i p a l changes f o r the week ended A p r i l 16* A decrease of
$161,000,000 i n l o a n s , and i n c r e a s e s of $518,000,000 i n holdings of United States
Government s e c u r i t i e s and $516,000,000 i n demand deposits a d j u s t e d .
Commercial, i n d u s t r i a l , and a g r i c u l t u r a l loans d e c l i n e d $59,000,000 i n N e w
York City and $86,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks, and increased $12,000,000
i n thejCity^of

i n c r e a s e d $302,000,000 in New York City, $62,000,000
in the Chicago D i s t r i c t , $31,000,000 in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and $372,000,000
a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks. Holdings of Treasury c e r t i f i c a t e s of indebtedness
increased $61,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t and $73,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g
member banks. Holdings of Treasury notes declined $32,000,000. Holdings of United
S t a t e s Government bonds increased $78,000,000 i n New York City, $11,000,000 each
in the Cleveland and Chicago D i s t r i c t s , and $105,000,000 a t a l l reporting member
banks and declined $13,000,000 i n the Boston D i s t r i c t .

Demand deposits a d j u s t e d increased $198,000,000 in the Chicago D i s t r i c t ,
$118,000,000 i n New York C i t y , $76,000,000 i n the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , $ 5 2 , 0 0 0 , 0 0 0
in the San Francisco District, $3li,000,000 in the Kansas City D i s t r i c t ,
$28,000,000 in t h e A t l a n t a D i s t r i c t , and $5^6,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks,
United States Government deposits and demand deposits c r e d i t e d t o domestic banks
increased $22,000,000 and $12,000,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y .

Borrowings declined $1*9,000,000 in New York City, $3^,000,000 in the New York
D i s t r i c t outside of New York City, $21,000,000 in the Cleveland D i s t r i c t , and
$123,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks.
