CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s
shows the following principal changes for the week ended April 9: An increase
of $435 million in loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying U. S.
Government and other securities; decreases of $551 million in balances with domestic
banks, $1,380 million i n U. S. Government deposits, and $320 million in demand
deposits credited to domestic banks; and an increase of $1,132 million in demand
deposits adjusted.
Commercial and industrial loans decreased $182 million at a l l reporting member
banks; the principal decreases were $111 million i n New York City and $31 million
in Chicago. Changes according t o industry appear in another press release.
Holdings of Treasury b i l l s decreased $112 million of which $104 million was
in Chicago, Holdings of Treasury notes increased $43 million. Holdings of "other"
securities increased $63 million i n the San Francisco District and $88 million at
a l l reporting member banks.
Demand deposits adjusted increased $388 million in Chicago, $270 million in
New York City, $215 million in the San Francisco D i s t r i c t , and by smaller amounts
in a l l of the other d i s t r i c t s . Time deposits increased $78 million in New York City
and a t o t a l of $190 million at a l l reporting member banks.
Borrowings from Federal Reserve Banks increased $36 million and borrowings from
others increased $475 million. Loans to banks increased $336 million,
