For immediate r e l e a s e CONDITION OF MEMBER BA1IKS IN LEADING CITIES The F e d e r a l Reserve B o a r d ' s c o n d i t i o n statement of 646 r e p o r t i n g member banks i n l e a d i n g c i t i e s as of A p r i l 11, shows d e c r e a s e s f o r the week of $28,000,000 i n l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s , of $15,000,000 i n i n v e s t m e n t s , and of $3-8,000,000 i n Government d e p o s i t s , and i n c r e a s e s of $4$,000,000 i n net demand d e p o s i t s , and of $19,000,000 i n time d e p o s i t s . Loans on s t o c k s and bonds, i n c l u d i n g U. S. Government o b l i g a t i o n s , were $78,000,000 below the A p r i l 4 t o t a l at a l l r e p o r t i n g banks, a r e d u c t i o n of $115,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t b e i n g p a r t l y o f f s e t by i n c r e a s e s of $8,000,000 each i n the Cleveland and Chicago d i s t r i c t s , and a t o t a l i n c r e a s e of $23>000,000 i n the o t h e r d i s t r i c t s . "All o t h e r " l o a n s and d i s c o u n t s , which a t a l l r e p o r t i n g banks were $50,000,000 above the p r e c e d i n g week's t o t a l , i n c r e a s e d •$18,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t , $2,000,000 i n the A t l a n t a d i s t r i c t , and $7,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t . Net demand d e p o s i t s i n c r e a s e d $49 ,000,000 at a l l r e p o r t i n g banks, $22,000,000 each i n the Chicago and San Francisco d i s t r i c t s , and $14,000,000 i n the St. Louis d i s t r i c t , and declined $16,000,000 and $8,000,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y , i n the New York and Cleveland d i s t r i c t s . Time d e p o s i t s i n c r e a s e d $13,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $9,000,000 i n the Kansas C i t y d i s t r i c t and $19,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g banks.
