CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities

shows the following principal changes for the week ended April %:

decreases of

$826 million in loans adjusted, $265 million in holdings of U. S. Government securities,
and $8l4 million in balances with domestic banks, an increase of $351 million in demand
deposits adjusted, and a decrease of $2,090 million in U. S. Government demand deposits.
,

Commercial and industrial loans decreased in eight districts and a net of
$257 million; during the comparable week a year ago these loans decreased $344 million.
Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying U. 9. Government securities
decreased $98 million, and their loans for purchasing or carrying "other" securities
decreased $68 million.

Loans to sales and personal financing institutions decreased

$283 million and loans to "other" noribarik financial Institutions decreased $33 million,
as compared with decreases of $48l million and $33 million, respectively, during the
similar week in 1964.

Real estate loans increased $14 million.

"Other" loans decreased

$39 million.
Holdings of Treasury bills by weekly reporting member banks increased $27 million and the combined total of Treasury notes and U. S. Government bonds decreased
$292 million.

"Other" securities increased $417 million.

Demand deposits adjusted increased $745 in the City of Chicago, $410 million

in the San Francisco District, and $55 million in the Richmond District and decreased
$324 million in New York City, $77 million in the Dallas District, and $72 million in
the Cleveland District.

Savings deposits increased $27 million and "other" time deposits

of individuals, partnerships, and corporations increased $200 million.
Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal Reserve Banks increased
$15 million and borrowings from others increased $946 million.
