CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
The F e d e r a l Reserve B o a r d ' s c o n d i t i o n s t a t e m e n t of weekly r e p o r t i n g member
banks in 91 l e a d i n g c i t i e s on March 27 shows d e c r e a s e s f o r the week of $35«000,000
in t o t a l loans and i n v e s t m e n t s , $5,000,000 i n n e t demand d e p o s i t s and $22,000,000
in r e s e r v e b a l a n c e s w i t h F e d e r a l Reserve banks, and an i n c r e a s e of $12,000,000 i n
time d e p o s i t s .
Loans on s e c u r i t i e s to b r o k e r s and d e a l e r s i n New York d e c l i n e d $18,000,000
a t r e p o r t i n g member banks i n the New York d i s t r i c t and $15,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g
member banks; loans to b r o k e r s and d e a l e r s o u t s i d e New York C i t y i n c r e a s e d
$9,000,000 i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t and $14,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g h a n k s ; and
loans on s e c u r i t i e s to o t h e r s d e c l i n e d $14,000,000 in the New York d i s t r i c t and
$21,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g b a n k s . Holdings of a c c e p t a n c e s and commercial paper
bought i n c r e a s e d $9,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t and $7,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t ing member banks; r e a l e s t a t e loans i n c r e a s e d $3,000,000; and "other l o a n s " d e c l i n e d $24,000,000 i n the New York d i s t r i c t and $19,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g banks.
Holdings of United S t a t e s Government d i r e c t o b l i g a t i o n s d e c l i n e d $46,000,000
i n the Chicago d i s t r i c t , $14,000,000 in the San F r a n c i s c o d i s t r i c t and $6,000,000
each i n the P h i l a d e l p h i a and Cleveland d i s t r i c t s , and i n c r e a s e d $33«000,000 i n the
New York d i s t r i c t , a l l r e p o r t i n g member banks showing a n e t r e d u c t i o n of
$43,000,000; h o l d i n g s of o b l i g a t i o n s f u l l y guaranteed by the United S t a t e s Government i n c r e a s e d $7,000,000; and h o l d i n g s of o t h e r s e c u r i t i e s i n c r e a s e d $31,000,000
a t r e p o r t i n g member banks i n the New York d i s t r i c t and $32,000,000 a t a l l r e p o r t i n g
banks.
Licensed member banks f o r m e r l y included i n the c o n d i t i o n s t a t e m e n t of member
banks i n 101 l e a d i n g c i t i e s , b u t not now i n c l u d e d in the weekly s t a t e m e n t , had
t o t a l loans and investments o,f $1,248,000,000 and n e t demand, time and Government
d e p o s i t s of $1,434,000,000 on March 27, compared with $1,236,000,000 and
$1,428,000,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y , on March 20.
