CONDITION OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANKS

}

The consolidated statement of condition of the Federal reserve banks on September 2, made public by the Federal Be serve Board, shows an increase f o r the week of
$11,600,000 in acceptances purchased in open market and decreases of $2,800,000 i n
discounted b i l l s , $6,000,000 in United S t a t e s Government s e c u r i t i e s , and $3,000,000
in foreign loans on gold. Federal reserve note c i r c u l a t i o n was $21,300,000 and
cash reserves $10,400,000 l a r g e r then a week ago.
The p r i n c i p a l changes in holdings of discounted b i l l s included an increase of
$71800,000 at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and decreases of
$11,300,000 a t Chicago and $7,800,000 at Boston.
A reduction of $7,300,'000 i n holdings of acceptances purchased in open market
i s reported by the Federal Be serve Bank of St. Louis. The p r i n c i p a l increase in
acceptance holdings, $6,700,000, i s reported by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston,
while the New York bank reports an increase of $4,000,000 and Philadelphia and
Chicago increases of $2,900,000 and $2,500,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y . Treasury notes on
hand went up $700,000 and United States bonds $300,000, while holdings of c e r t i f i cates of. indebtedness f e l l o f f $7,000,000.
Changes i n Federal reserve note c i r c u l a t i o n during the week include an increase
of $6,400,000 reported by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and increases of
$6,200,000 and $3»600,000, r e s p e c t i v e l y , reported by San Francisco and Atlanta,
