CONDITION OF .FEDERAL RESERVE B.A}1KS The consolidated statement of condition of the Fet~er.al l'esa-rve banks on September 10, mael:e public by the Federal Rese:r.ve Board, shows a d.ecl'ease of $4o, 100, OCO in holdings of bills Cliscounted fo:r. member banks as against inc:r.eases of $22,900,000 in bills bought in open rrJQ.:rket a;:d of $26,ooo,ooo in u. s. secu:r..ities,:A.a a result of these changes total ear.:1ir:lf; a33ets show an increase fol' the week of $8,200,000. Federal :rese:r.ve note c hculat ion decreased by $10,100,000, while total deposits inc:r.eased qy $31,200,000 and. cash rese:r?es by $12,100,000. Eight of the Federal :r.eserve banks report decreased holdings of d.iscounted bills, the decrease for the New York bank being $38,300,000 and. for the seven other resel'Ve banks $9,6oo,ooo. An increase· of $5,800,000 is r.epol'ted by the Cleve18nd bank and small increases by Ricbmom, C~1icago and St. Louis. HolClings of paper secured by u. s. obligations declined qy $33,100,000 to t84,900,0CO. Of the latter amount $72,900,000 was secu-red by Liberty and other U. S. bonos, $11,2CO,OOO by Treasul'y notes, md $800,000 by certificates of indebtedness. All of the reserve banks except Boston, Phil~elphia and Richmcnd report incl'eased holdings of bills purchased in open market. The largest increases are: New York, $7,600,000; Chicago, $3,700,000; Cleveland, $3,600,000 and San Francisco, $3,400,000. U. S. bonds held increased by ;J;1,200,000, Treasury notes by 4:20,800,000 a:nd certificates of inde-btedness by $4,000,000, All of the !'eser.ve ban1:s except Richmond participated in the total increase of $26,000,0CO in holclings of U. S. securities. An aggregate decrease of $18 1 700,000 in Federal :reserve note circulation :reported by Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Bost en and St. Louis is partly offset by an aggregate incl'ease of $8, bOO, 000 in Federal reserve note ci:rculat ion reported by the other seven banks. Philadelphia and New Yo:rk :report the lal'gest reductia1s of $7,000,000 an'l $5,300,000, respectively, while the largest increases of $3,700,000 and $2,700,000, respectively, are reported by the Cleve,_arii. and Dallas banks, Gold :reserves increased by $3,900,000 dul'ing the week, Rese:rves other than gold by $8,200,000 and Nan-r.eser.ve cash by $S,l00,0CD.
