FEDERAL RESERVE Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and Condition Statement of F.R. Banks For immediate release October lk, I965 The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during the week ended October 13 decreased a net of $337 million to $21,717 million. Estimated currency and coin of member banks increased 5J&5 million and their reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks decreased $382 million. Estimated required reserves decreased $2C1 million; and estimated excess reserves decreased $136 million to $306 million. Member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks exceeded excess reserves by $189 million, compared with the revised net borrowed figure of $9^ million the week before. The principal changes reducing average reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks were decreases of $101 million in U. S. Government securities bought outright and $kl million in member bank bcrrowings, and an increase of $326 million in currency in circulation. The principal offsetting changes were an increase of $30 million in U. 3. Government securities held under repurchase agreements, and decreases of $30 million in "other" F. R. accounts (net) and $27 million in Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. Total Reserve Bank credit decreased $135 million. As of Wednesday, October 13, holdings of U. S. Government securities bought outright were $98 million lower than a week earlier, U. S. Government securities held under repurchase agreements were $207 million higher, and member bank borrowings were $1*39 million lower.
