Factors Affecting Bank Reserves and
Condition Statement of F.R. Banks

The average of daily figures of total member bank reserves held during
the week ended October 13 decreased a net of $337 million to $21,717 million.
Estimated currency and coin of member banks increased 5J&5 million and their
reserve balances at the Federal Reserve Banks decreased $382 million. Estimated
required reserves decreased $2C1 million; and estimated excess reserves decreased
$136 million to $306 million. Member bank borrowings at the Federal Reserve Banks
exceeded excess reserves by $189 million, compared with the revised net borrowed
figure of $9^ million the week before.
The principal changes reducing average reserve balances with Federal
Reserve
Banks were decreases of $101 million in U. S. Government securities bought
outright and $kl million in member bank bcrrowings, and an increase of $326 million
in currency in circulation. The principal offsetting changes were an increase of
$30 million in U. 3. Government securities held under repurchase agreements, and
decreases of $30 million in "other" F. R. accounts (net) and $27 million in
Treasury deposits with Federal Reserve Banks. Total Reserve Bank credit decreased
$135 million.
As of Wednesday, October 13, holdings of U. S. Government securities
bought outright were $98 million lower than a week earlier, U. S. Government
securities held under repurchase agreements were $207 million higher, and member
bank borrowings were $1*39 million lower.

the Federal Reserve Banks for foreign account were $7/787 million, an increase of
$69 million for the week, and a decrease of $5j6 million from the ccmpax-akle date

a year ago.
